GOOD NEWS
Roz shared with the club her early memories of the Lake Conroe meeting being held on the Boat. It was always a surprise and one morning a cold front just blew in. It was 40 degrees, the wind was blowing, and freezing. She never sat so close to a minister before that day!
Don shared with the club how he at the time was the Conroe Rotary Club President. The District Governor had done a review of the Conroe Club and it was not good. In order, to get back in the good graces of the District Governor he started the Lake Conroe Club. He and Johnny Johnson were so ready for a fresh start and excited for the Lake Conroe club that they both showed up to the meeting a week early and as result played a great round of golf!
Pat shared with the Club that her children’s father passed away and they had a celebration of life. It was a true celebration because all three wives and families were there. Pat also announced that Don caught her in Memory Park with a younger man. Her grandson, Will turned four last Sunday and loves visiting the Park!
GUEST SPEAKER
Josh Treadaway of Fare Thee Wellness spoke to the club about How to Have Your Healthiest Year Yet -Increasing wellness Through Diet and Activity! He is really passionate about healthy living and activity. He spoke on how it doesn’t cost anything to get moving and make changes to your diet! It is more important than ever to look at our habits due to the increase in type II diabetes now affecting more children ages 6-19 then adults. Type II diabetes is so much more common in children it’s not even being called adult diabetes anymore. These children are also having sings of plaque in their arteries. Josh, says “that we are a society that doesn’t know how to cook and we eat out more and more, which is part of the problem. “
Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, wrote a book about a plant based whole foods diet. “Forks over Knives” this diet was attributed with the reversing and preventing of Heart Disease. This is not a new concept, in 1907, there was an article written in the New York Times about how Cancer is increasingamong Meat Eaters. Our diet and activity are directly correlated to Heart Disease, Type II Diabetes, and other diseases, rather, than just being hereditary. A plant based whole foods diet consist of vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, and no meat not even fish or chicken. Josh has been on this diet for over 10 years and the only two supplements he takes are B-12 and Vitamin D, because the vegetables, nuts, and seeds have a large amount of protein. In Fare Thee Wellness Josh and his wife will help you come up with a plan that works for you and your family. They will teach you how to shop and even prepare the foods.
