Program: Non-Rotarian of the year Award was presented to Terri Jaggers by Gary and Janet Milleson. The Non – Rotarian of the year award is recognition given to a local citizen who in not a member of a Rotary Club, but has a rotary heart. Paul Harris established the Rotary International in 1905 by combing fellowship and service. A quote by Paul Harris states, “If you have the love of your fellow man in your heart, my friends, you are a potential Rotarian.”
Terri Jaggers was Sam Houston State University’s 1st MA in Communication Studies graduate in 2010 completing her thesis entitled Socio-Psychological Benefits of Storytelling Among Foster Families. Her natural leadership and professional experience led her to become a Clinical Asst. Professor and Director of Internships for SHSU’s Communication Studies Department. As a well-respected community leader, Terri is considered one of Texas’ leading experts in our state’s foster care system. She and her husband Pat have fostered 25 children in which 5 of them became permanently “Jaggers” through kinship and adoption. Terri is currently the Executive Director of Hope’s Path, a premier program that helps foster alumni who have aged out of the system successfully launch into sustainable independent lives. In addition, she is currently serving as the President of two key organizations that effectuate change in our foster care system: Montgomery County Child Welfare/CPS; and Orphan Care Solutions of Texas. In 2015, Terri was presented the “Lifetime Legacy Award” by Texas DFPS and was nominated into the Texas Woman’s Hall of Fame by Governor Rick Perry for her leadership in community collaborations; specifically, for the collaborative and bridging efforts of our community’s foster care stakeholders, private sector, and the faith based community.
Terri was presented the award along with a $400 to her charity, Hope’s Path. Terri gave an update on the child care system and her fight to continue to improve conditions for children.
