District 5910 Governor
Rhonda Herrington, District 5910 Governor and August 24th Speaker
District Govenor Rhonda is a member of the Rotary Club of Palestine where she has served as president, director, and was the club's bulletin editor for ten consecutive years.
 
Professionally, Rhonda has been an educator for 35 years. She is District Director of Fine Arts for the Palestine Independent School District. She has been State President of Kindergarten Teachers of Texas and Chairperson of one of the standing committees of the Texas chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international organization of key women educators. In her free time she is the founder and director of the Anderson County Community Chorus and Orchestra; is music director at Grace United Methodist Church in Palestine; on the Board of Directors of the Palestine Public Library; President of Anderson County Meals on Wheels; on the Board of the ICEE (Institute where Creativity Empowers Education Success).
 
In 2013, she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Palestine Chamber of Commerce. She has 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

Lake Conroe Rotary Club August 17, 2017 Meeting Notes
Rotarian Celebrations:
Chuck & Phyllis are celebrating the 60th anniversary today!
On the 22nd, Sarah & Jeremy are celebrating 8 years!
 
Good News:
Warren: Visited the Farmer’s market on Tuesday & it was excellent!
Mike: Someone in the cafeteria on his trip complained about all the “old people” there, he tried to challenge them to arm wrestling & they “left to go back to work”
Chuck: He was a mere child when he got married but it has been a great 60 years.
 
Club Announcements:
Club Astros game coming up! If anyone can car pull please reach out to Roz! August 24th.
Daniela wanted Mike to mention the Baby Shower or in Mike’s word, “Coming out party”! August 31st @ Daniela’s house, Please RSVP. This will replace our morning meeting.
September 7th we will not have a morning meeting because we have the Old Navy event that following Saturday. Please sign up to participate for the event!
The courier did a really great story about Memory Park. Lake Conroe Splash published some events coming up: Real Men of Montgomery County Event hosted by Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, Solar Eclipse happening on the 21st which some of the libraries will be hosting an event for.
The Conroe Rotary Club on Tuesday at Lunch Time are having their 85th celebration in Willis, get with Doris for more details.

Speaker for today: The Lake Conroe Rotary Board
We are currently at 46 members, our goal for the year is 50. We have already inducted 3 new members this year, we are off to a great start! Our focus: under age 40, net gain of female members.
Looking to engage members in more activities outside of the morning meetings. Servicing projects & networking socials atleast quarterly. Rotary International is also much geared to environmental service/projects this year, the Rotary International President’s goal is for every Rotarian to plant a tree.
Doris & Monica: Make ups & what Constitutes a makeup
-Any projects outside of the morning meeting (work days, service projects, meeting for committee’s)
-Also online make ups available as well.
-Working with the Interact program also counts as a makeup as well.
-Volunteer Hours report: The Presidential Citation is now requiring us to track our Volunteer Hours, Doris will be trying to track these hours. Just send her an email with the amount of hours & what you spent those hours on. It will be great to look back at the next installation & see how many hours the club has volunteered.
 
Ashley & Charlie: Co-Treasurers
-Our club is a 501 c(4) and a 501 c(3)
-The foundation account budget is $56,800 (Our fundraisers, raffles, Good news, scholarships, polio, & reserve funds)
-Memory Park: The Foundation account donates $5,000 to the Memory Park account annually.

Janet, Save our Stuff: Saving towels, toiletries, things around the houses, eyeglasses:
-Right now, personal care items are needed & eyeglasses.
-Gently used clothing & clothes for interviews, & books
 
Shannon w/ Membership:
-There is now a membership committee!
-4 things that we can implement now: We are going to work to bring the fun back! We are starting back up a mentoring program again! Creating a pipeline for new members! We are beginning a welcoming committee!

Adulting – When High school kids do adult things
The Rotary Club has been such a great support unit for the interact club.
Candy Roll Project- Filling empty toilet paper rolls with Candy & wrapping them in Christmas paper for those kids who do not receive presents.

Raffle:
Pot is currently at $26. Mike had the winning ticket but did not draw the joker @ win the raffle!
