Beverly Christopher, former head librarian of The Charles B Stewart Library, passed away Tuesday morning after a long battle with cancer. Beverly was a long term friend of RCLC, and was always a great help to us with Memory Park, especially in the early years when we were building the park. Her husband Gary was a Rotarian in our club for several years. Funeral Services are Wednesday July 27th at 3 p.m. at Cashner's in Conroe. Godspeed Beverly.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY
David Blocker with "Keep Us Fed" Montgomery County

MEMORY PARK NEWS:

The Montgomery Area Chamber Business After Hours was held at Memory Park Tuesday evening July 26th. The rains passed us by and even provided a breeze for us. A nice turnout and a job well done by Mike Berger and his volunteer group. Thanks to all who helped!

"StoryWalk Phase I" is up at Memory Park. The StoryWalk is a young readers book with pages laminated to a sign. The child moves along the walk reading each page.
This project, in conjunction  with The Friends of The Charles B Stewart Library , will be a wonderful new addition to Memory Park, and will be accomplished in three phases. This very quick installation is Phase I. The book pages for young readers were quickly set up in time for the Chamber After Hours Event at the park. Next week, for Phase II, a picnic bench will be moved to this area and the stakes will be rearranged into a longer walk centered around in the bench.  These two temporary measures will allow young children to come and read the pages during summer vacation months while we work on Phase III, which will be a cheery, colorful garden in this space, with the book pages as part of a permanent, rotating installation. A few strong armed Volunteers are needed for next Thursday morning, August 4th for about an hour right after Rotary to move the picnic bench to this area and reset the stakes. Please contact Kris Nordstrom McBride to help.

Visit our Club website and see our new site banner (thank you Deanna!) and the revamping and updating in progress. If you are an officer, director, or a project or committee chair, please submit information about your project or area of service to Kris Nordstrom McBride so that your site page can be added to the website. Thank you!

GUEST SPEAKER
Andrea Benson and ChipVanSteenberg spoke with the club about Montgomery 911 new changes.  The Montgomery 911 is a small unit of local government they are not a part of the County.  Funds are collected from the 911 fees you see on your cell phone and homeline.  These funds are used to support infrastructure the service.  The Montgomery 911 support call centers with addressing and mapping.  There are five areas that are being updated and changed explained below.

Smart 911-All citizens of Montgomery County at no additional cost can set up a profile at smart911.com.  The profile will give the first responder current information about your health and emergency contacts.  The  profile will allow you to list and identify everyone that lives in the household, pets, and list of medications, and allergies you may have.  The profile can list as little or much information you would like.  The profiles you build are private sharing and held at Rate Mobile Safety.  The information will only be accessed when you call in during an emergency.

Emergency Alerts-Code Red Alerts from Montgomery County are customized automated weather warnings.  The Code Red Alerts can call any landline, cell phone, or e-mail you have registered on your profile.  All Emergency alerts will come through Smart 911.  Between now and September 1st dual notifications will sent.  You can began receiving the notificationsby building a profile.  The only information you need to start building a profile is minimum; name, address, email address, and phone number.

Smart911 Facility- Similar to Smart 911, but this product is for the business, school, church, etc.  This will allow business to upload floor plans, employee names, and information about the facility.  This product features a geo-fence boundary of the facility therefore; if anyone makes a call with a cell phone it can populate the profile and location of the call from within the facility.

Text 911-Can you send a text to 911?  The FCC is encouraging text to be sent to 911.  This feature will be available in early 2017.  This process takes about 6 months prior to the launch date to be implemented.

Multi-Line Telephone System-As a result of Kari’s Law that was passed any facility that has multi-lines will no longer have to dial 9-911.  To ensure that when you are in an emergency you can dial Direct Access to 911.

For more information or to coordinate a test call please contact Jeanne Frey at 936-523-5911 or info@mc911.org
