Victoria Edwards
President 2017-2018
Our focus for the 2017 – 2018 Rotary year can be summarized in 3 main points:
  • Practicing a servant’s heart
  • Realizing the power in numbers
  • The act of being intentional
It is the responsibility of this Club to be intentional in our service, build new networks, and foster existing relationships.  We must continually engage and grow together as Rotarians, and commit to our local community.
The definition of “intentional” is “done on purpose, deliberate”.  My hope is that the members of the The Lake Conroe Rotary Club do more than just go through the motions.  I hope that each act, each project, each donation will be premeditated.  My hope is that we are able to realize what we are accomplishing as a group, and to gain a better understanding of the impact we have on our community.  This in turn will make us better advocates for our common passions.
By collaborating with other Rotarians in the area we will be able to give more.  We all know there is power in numbers, and to make an even bigger difference in the lives of others- working together is necessary.  I hope to partner with area Clubs to make a bigger difference than what we can make alone.  At the Rotary International conference in Atlanta this year, I had the privilege of hearing a number of great speakers.  The words of Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed, still resonate with me today.  He said that Rotarians deal with the “…world’s greatest challenges, [Rotarians] help us dream the dream of a better and more cohesive planet.  More than that [Rotarians] demonstrate a plan of action and through your work, you give leaders like me a path that we too can follow”.  It was truly humbling to hear someone from the outside list the achievements of Rotarians as a whole.  Mayor Reed wasn’t referencing just one Rotary Club, but instead Rotary as one entity.  Rotarians are empowering so many people by just being active members and giving back.  Imagine the difference we can make and the positive changes we can bring by working together and being intentional as a larger group.
Lastly, in the words of Winston Churchill “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”.  One of the main reasons I committed to leading my Club this year was to have a platform to demonstrate the change I want to see in this world. With our collaborative efforts, our servants’ hearts and purposeful giving- together, as Rotarians, we will continue to Make A Difference.
I look forward to working alongside the exceptional Board our Club has installed, and I sincerely thank you for trusting me to lead our Club for the 2017 – 2018 Rotary year.
