LAST WEEK AT ROTARY:
April 13, 2017

Club announcements:
-April 21st - 23rd is District Conference in Lufkin.
-May 8th is the next board meeting. It will be held at Daniela's office at 5PM
-May 5th is Los Compadres - we currently have 20 teams. Roz and Rick are doing a great job with the auction. Please get them any items that are collected.
Mike Berger is in charge of the raffle. Please get him the money from the ticket sales or bring back the tickets to sell the say of Los Compadres.
April
- April 25th is Ladies Night. We will be doing a bunco game and getting ready for Los Compadres Bunco!
- April 27th  is Steak and Beans. Please sign up on the sheet going around so we can get a head count. The event will be at Roz's home. Shanon will be working with the red badgers to cook and work the event.
- May 12th - the new putt putt golf course will be holding a scramble. They are inviting non-profits to work each of the holes and promote what we do in the community. We will be participating and need about 4-5 people to work the event. It will be a great way to talk about Rotary and mingle with the community.
- The club is participating in a global grant. The club has set aside $5,000 to donate and the district has set aside another $5,000 in district designated funds to put toward the project. The partner is the Rotary Club in Monterrey. They have applied for the grant to purchase an optometry machine that is used to detect eye defects, cataracts, etc. This will help people that are living in poverty in the area have medical attention.
Committee Reports:
- Administration (Daniela) - no report
- Membership (Shanon) - please follow up with guests that were invited.
- Service (Jan) - we need a few people to help with reading applications and choosing a winner for the non-Rotarian of the year award.
Also, the scholarship committee will be meeting today to chose the high school winners.
- Foundation (Gary) - no report
- Polio (Mike) - There were no cases this week. Also, the watch raffle will end on June 22nd. The winner will be chosen at the installation banquet.
- New Generations (Rick) - The kids are doing a lot right now at Montgomery High. They are packing bags and back packs for the homeless in the area with hygiene items. Please donate back packs or hygiene items if you have them.
Monica reported that Willis Interact did pennies for polio and raised over $160.
Program: Jack Yates, City Administrator
Jack gave an update on the development status of Montgomery. Some of the updates included:
- The 33 acre tract of Stewart Creek Road: Developers are planning to develop single family homes on this acreage.
- Pizza Shack Construction: Completion date is not known, but they have made enough progress to satisfy the Texas Capital grant. THey will have 2 years to hire 50.1% of their employees that are under the median income level.
- Kenrock Property: This is 20 acres west of the new Pizza Shack location. This is zone B commercial property. The site plans have 3 pad sites on Highway 105 and then two buildings on the North side of the property.
- Northwest Corner of SH105 and Lone Star Pkwy: This will be a 20,000 sq ft strip center. 2/3 of the building will be an emergency medical clinic and 1/3 a dentist office.
- Southeast Corner of Hwy 105 and FM 2854: This is the HEB Corner. They are estimating at least 2 years from getting serious about building.
- Kroger Site: The estimated time to open is sometime this Summer, but a set date has not been established. They have 6 pad sites near 105 and Lone Star Parkway. Businesses that are expected to go in are Nails of America, Aveda Salon, Great Clips, Massage Envy, Lucky Start Asian restaurant, a dry cleaners, and a Fudge Shop.
There are several other developments that are going on in Montgomery. Jack ran out of time to discuss all of them individually. He passed out a report outlining information on the traffic developments, expansion of the sewer plant, McCoys, Ransoms area, Fernland, Memory Park, and Downtown Montgomery. If you are interested in learning more, feel free to contact Jack to discuss the development and grab a copy of the report.

Meeting Notes taken by President Audrey this week. Thank you for your commitment to this work. We appreciate you!
