Our thoughts and prayers are with Jan Ricketts, who is having shoulder surgery this week - because of some other health issues complicating her situation, surgery was delayed. GOOD NEWS
Craig announced his daughter that lives in San Antonio and works with the grants office for public housing recently moved out of the home she has been renting and was denied getting her deposit back.  She sent her landlords an e-mail laying down the laws and told them she will be taking them to small claims court.  Four days later, she received a letter from the Judge Judy TV show asking her to appear on the show.  She and her witness will get an all expense paid trip out to LA and if she wins her case will receive her funds in 30 days guaranteed.  The other side will also have to agree to be on the show, but anyway she has an official Judge Judy Letter.  Also Pixie had her second surgery on Monday and everything went well! Prayers have worked because all has gone so well.  Hopefully, this is the last thing for her to do.
Deanna announced that her son arrived safe at home last night from London. He was staying in the hotel right across from where the attacks had taken place.  Thankfully he was on the plane already when it happened. So very thankful he is o.k.
Victoria announced that she and Chance are expecting in October! Congratulations.
GUEST SPEAKER
The LMC class of 2017 shared with the club about LMC, how LMC has helped, the class project, and about Henry’s home and the Veteran’s program.
Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to developing and enhancing current and future leaders of Montgomery County.  The mission of LMC is to prepare emerging and existing leaders to understand local issues, grow their leadership skills and connect with others to better serve Montgomery County.Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) began originally as Leadership Conroe, founded by The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce in 1987. In 1995, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce joined with the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce to establish Leadership Montgomery County. Throughout its history, Leadership Montgomery County has produced more than 700 graduates. LMC alumni members stay involved in the organization through social activities, helping plan events and supporting the organization in various ways.

Each participant of LMC must be a member of one of the area chambers. There is an application process to be a part of an LMC class. The LMC program provides an educational forum and mentoring opportunity for participants.

We started with an overnight, team-building retreat in September. Our class meets the 1st Thursday of each month at various locations throughout Montgomery County for a full-day session on various topics. So far, we have learned more about economic development, education, government, infrastructure, public safety, and healthcare. Our next two classes are serving our community and leadership development. Each session also includes small group discussion on the book-The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership By JOHN C. MAXWELL.
How LMC has benefited me/ my classmates
•    LMC has opened so many doors for everyone in the class
o    You meet and interact with incredible people that you just can’t do at a typical happy hour
o    Form relationships with everyone in the class, whether they are business related or personal
o    You have a support system to lean on and a room full of knowledge people that have strengths in all  different places
o    There are so many people that have gone through LMC that we also get the chance to meet and instantly make a connection with
o    One of our classmates has utilized LMC as a stepping stone to run for a city council position!
•    We get to learn so much about our community and the wonderful people that make it so great.
•    Your knowledge deepens and strengthens on leadership aspects that make you a better leader and person
•    Everyone will graduate and finish the class project with a new knowledge about Montgomery that you can’t get anywhere else and form relationships with people that will last a lifetime
Class Project: Why we have one and how/why we chose HH
The class project is a large part of overall experience of LMC.  The project is intended to be a leadership laboratory and the purpose is for you to develop and apply your leadership skills.
•    Each year at retreat the class selects their own project that benefits the local community.  Projects range in scope and size depending on what the class choose.
•    All class members must participate and the project has to be complete by April 30th to graduate.
•    The class is responsible for fundraising and the accounting of the funds, budget and timeline, scope of work and communication of the project.
•    We also work with our class assigned Project liaisons to make sure we are keeping within the scope of work.
•    Prior to work beginning the class must obtain Board approval for the project scope, timeline, budget, and fundraising.  Once approval is granted by the Board work can began.
o    Each month we have to report to the Board on our progress
•    This year the class of 2017 unanimously voted for Henry’s Home Horse and Human Sanctuary primarily due to the passion that Donna Stedman exuded in her presentation.
•    At the retreat Donna, touched all our hearts with her vision of “enhancing the quality of life for horses and humans who have suffered trauma, known neglect or simply need a quiet place in nature with a loving family to heal from unseen wounds,”.  This will allow for planned program expansion into equine-assisted psychotherapy for veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
•    The request-HH was in the process of moving to their new location in Grand Central Park in Conroe and was at a crucial growth point in its organization.  Their request was two parts:
o     1) develop marketing materials and promotion in the county to further get the word out about Horses & Hero’s Equine Therapy Program and
o     2) Build a fenced outdoor arena for the therapy session at the location and a portable building to host the inside therapy portion, as well as a location for the therapist and equine specialist to meet and work.
•    From the request our class divided the project into four primary components.
o    Strategic Support-focused on helping HH improve as an organization creating bylaws strategic planning and developing a master site plan
o    Capital Improvements- focused on physical improvements to HH new building, renovation, and arena
o    Marketing-focused on the marketing materials to fulfill the requirements of fundraising, and developing the long term marketing strategy
o    Fundraising support the project fundraising needs while also providing long-term fundraising plan
Please join the LMC class 2017 for a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 19th for Henry’s Home.  We hope you all can join us!
