LINDA RICKETTS and ROBYN DRODDY
August 28, 2014
“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.” From Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.
With these words, Montgomery County Memorial Library System Library Director JeriLynn Williams tied together the lives of Rotarian Linda Ricketts and library employee Robyn Droddy, recipient of the first Linda Ricketts Literacy Scholarship. The scholarship was presented at the August 28th breakfast meeting of The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe.
Robyn is a first year graduate student at The University of North Texas, where she is working towards her masters degree in Library Science. She is a full time employee of The Montgomery County Memorial Library System, where she has been hailed as an exemplary employee. "This scholarship will change my life" she told us " I am not only the first person in my family to graduate from college, I am the first to graduate from high school...It is a dream for my mother to see me walk across the stage to get a PHD degree....I have told my Mom, we shall see" .
Robyn was accompanied at the presentation by her mom Lois Rosencutter and her proud husband Justin Droddy. Robyn met Linda Ricketts for the first time at the breakfast meeting, amidst much hugging and more than a few misty eyes. We are excited to welcome Robyn into our extended Family of Rotary.
Five applications were received for this new scholarship, and making a choice was a difficult task for the selection committee. This first year, the application process was open only to employees of the library system working towards an advanced degree in Library Sciences. Our thanks to the other applicants, all of whom were very deserving - Steve Sosa, Trevor Taylor, Lindsay McGee and Megan Elysse Robertson.
